Ambassador Dennis Ross served as chairman of JPPPI's board of directors and professional guiding council from its establishment in 2002 until stepping down from the board in early 2009. He served as the U.S. State Department's Director of Policy Planning during the administration of H.W. Bush and as the special Middle East coordinator under President Bill Clinton. Ambassador Ross was director of Near East and South Asian Affairs on the National Security Council staff during the Reagan administration. He is currently special adviser for the Persian Gulf and Southwest Asia to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Ross is the author of countless articles on international affairs; his two most recent books are: Statecraft, and How to Restore America's Standing in the World (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, June 2007) and The Missing Peace: The Inside Story of the Fight for Middle East Peace (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, August 2004)
